Community Animal Month - What to do at Town Square in April

April is getting WILD...literally at Town Square as we kick-off Community Animal month. Filled with old friends and new faces, these programs are sure to get you excited about the month and upcoming summer events! (Did we mention there are over 160 programs this year?!) April is just another month packed full of them.

So gather up your gaggle of geese or your flock of little ducklings and check out these animal-themed events!


Town Square Lobby Artist Gallery Reception Featuring Gary Hazelberg and Tom Schultz

Friday, April 2, 5-6 PM

In-Person - FREE

Two artists and huge supporters of Town Square will be showcasing their work in the lobby for the entire month of April. Gary Hazelberg will display his collection of wooden bowls and tables, and Tom Schultz will be showing his latest installments in his ever-growing selection of bird illustrations. Tom has even been featured in National Geographic’s Field Guide to North America’s Birds.


Speaker Series: Honey Bee 411 with Gerard Schubert

The Art of Beekeeping discussion with Gerard Schubert, president of the East Central Wisconsin Beekeepers Association, will answer questions such as the cost to start beekeeping, ideal locations, feeding, care, and more!


Woodworking Wednesday: Create a Wooden Comfort Bird Demonstration

Wednesday, April 14, 7:00 - 8:00 PM

Virtual - $10 ($15 for wood blank) - Registration Required

Back by popular demand AND now in-person! Gary Hazelberg will introduce you to the joys of woodworking with a simple wood carving. During this virtual demonstration, Gary will provide step-by-step instructions and safety tips* to carve your own wooden comfort bird. These wooden creatures are birds you can hold in the palm of your hand, and by rubbing its smooth tail, it brings comfort to those holding one. If you want to get hands-on, you can purchase a wood blank for $15 at the Front Desk at Town Square.


Wacky Wood Wildlife Workshop with Kathy McLaughlin

Saturday, April 17 & April 24, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

In-Person - $25- Registration Required 

A two-part KIDS program! Students, ages 8-12, will learn how to use various mediums and techniques, including wood, paint, beads, buttons, sharks teeth, and more, to design their fierce mixed media portrait inspired by their favorite animal or pet. Kids will build their works of art on a 12" x 16" canvas and use an assortment of materials to create a fantastical background. Once the setting for their animal is complete, students will paint and embellish to enhance their creature.


Speaker Series: Raising Chickens 101 Presented by the Oft Family

Tuesday, April 20, 6:30 - 7:30 PM

In-Person - FREE - Registration Required 

An event you do not want to miss!!! David and Nicholas Oft, ages 12 and 9, along with their mother Brenda of Oft’s Flock and Feather Farms, will share their experiences raising chickens for the past six years. They will discuss setup needs, costs, some of the rules you should be aware of depending on if you live inside city limits or not, products, and more!
